Bollywood has always been the source of Indian fashion – on and off the screens.

Today, i’ve picked out the top 5 easy-to-do women’s hairstyles of 2012 and how you can do them at home…Bollywood style!

Deepika Padukone first sported this look at the 2012 Colors Screen Awards and ever since, she can be seen looking chic as ever in this hairstyle. She was seen with a similar style in Cocktail, and this hairstyle (which is super easy to do) looks great for all occasions…specially at the beach or at lunch with your friends.

Here’s a quick video demonstrating how to do a messy fish tail like Deepika.

Before you get started, here are a few style tips on how to make it quicker and easier:

– Tie your hair into a low ponytail before starting the braiding process and use a scissor to carefully cut off the rubber band once you’ve finished making the plait. This will keep all your hair in place and make it look natural yet stylish.

– Do not use any hair products on this hairstyle unless you have thin hair and want to add volume. This hairstyle is supposed to be messy so don’t make it too neat with hair spray or moose. Use pins to secure stray hairs if you need to.

– Try using a rubber band that matches your hair colour so that it’s not visible and makes the plait look more natural.

Katrina Kaif is known for her amazing soft curls that never seem to go out of fashion. This style looks good on all face shapes and for almost every occasion. Although this is easier to do for women with naturally wavy hair, a little hairspray is all you need if you have poker straight hair like me. Follow these 10 easy steps for curls that look natural, voluminous and super stylish:

1. Wash hair, towel-dry and comb hair out.

2. Prepping hair to hold the curl is very important. If your hair doesn’t hold a curl well, don’t skip this step. If you have straight-ish hair, turn head upside down and spray freshly washed roots with volumizing hair spray. Massage it in.

3. Blow dry your hair straight for extra volume by running your fingers through it in a downward motion – only if you have straight hair.

4. Separate hair into three sections – you can use a clutcher to do so.

5. Use a curling iron to curl your hair.

6. Take a 1-inch portion of hair and wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Beware of curling iron clip marks. Curl naturally – don’t start at the top of your head.

7. Release the curl after about 10-15 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should end up with a corkscrew curl.

8. Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through each section. (It’s all in the direction you wind hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Start by placing hair on top of the barrel and wrapping around, then switch by putting the barrel on top of the hair before winding it around). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural. Some curls can remain tight, some loose.

9. Remove nozzle from your blow dryer and gently loosen waves with cool or warm air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure NOT to brush them out.

10. Set with hairspray — or don’t, whatever you prefer. Just don’t overdo the spray, you don’t want new waves to feel “crunchy.”

This hairstyle is my personal favorite. It’s super easy and can take less than 2 minutes – great for when you’re in a rush to college or work and especially amazing when you’re having a bad hair day.

– If your hair is super wavy, you may want to iron or blow dry your hair straight before starting.

– Pull all your hair to one side. Don’t worry about little strays or layers that fall out – it just makes the hairstyle more natural.

– Start from your ear or chin and braid your hair (using a regular plaiting technique).

– Use a rubber band that matches your hair colour and tie. Use bobby pins or other hair pins to loosely secure any hair that may have fallen around your face.

Style Tip: don’t over think this hairstyle. It is supposed to look as natural as possible so don’t use too much (if any) hair product.

Last month I came across this video on how to make a messy but cute bun and it’s EXTREMELY easy and looks almost identical to Sonam Kapoor’s hairstyle without the extra effort. Check out this video and try this style asap.

Style Tip: Don’t use hairspray if you don’t need to.

Although Mrs. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been making countless fashion faux pas, I have to admit that she’s flawless and sometimes, she can surprise us with super classy styles. I love how simple yet sexy and sleek this ponytail style is:

1. Spritz your hair with a light hair spray (not too much)

2. Scoop out 2 fingers of wet look hair gel.

3. Use a thin comb to make a side parting in your hair.

4. Keep a 1 inch strand of hair out and tie the rest of your hair in a low ponytail with a thin rubber band.

5. Take the 1 inch section of hair and wrap it around the rubber band to hide it and add some extra style. Use a bobby pin (hair pin) to secure the wrapped strand.

Style Tip: Afraid to use too much gel? Gently oil your hair a bit before putting in the gel to add that extra wet look and keep your hair from getting damaged.

Deepika Padukone Style

11 Aug

I absolutely adore Deepika Padukone’s style and besides her clothes (which of course look great on someone as skinny as her), her hair and make up are always flawless, radiant and VERY achievable.

So, today i’m going to give you a little style class on how to get Deepika Padukone’s look (it’s easy, fast and super FAB)

1. How to get Deepika Padukone’s beachy waves:

Anyone who recently watched Cocktail, saw how much fun messy waves can be. With the monsoon hitting us, this is the easiest and trendiest hair style to have. It’s great for a drink with friends, a dinner date and specially if you’re planning to dance the night away.

What you need :

1. A hair protecting serum (like Livon)

2. A hair straightener (if you don’t already own one, you’re missing out on a LOT)

3. A hair wax or clay (these are easily available in the market or you can borrow it from your dad or brother)

For women like me who have short hair, this look works well even if you’re hair is shoulder length. I’ve tried this hairstyle about 10 times now and after watching this video, i’ve mastered the look.

So, in a nutshell,

– Add serum into your hair (generously)

– Use a hair straightener to create waves (do not over section your hair or be too organized, or you won’t get the desired results)

– Use a hair wax or clay to scrunch the waves for that messy beachy look.

Style Tip: If you want to go the whole nine yards with this look, I suggest getting subtle light brown highlights like Deepika.

2. How to get Deepika Padukone’s ponytail look:

This easy to do hairstyle looks best for most day occasions and works well with both Indian and Western wear. Deepika Padukone can be seen with this hairdo at almost any casual event and I love how effortless yet chic this style is.

1. Use a hair straighter to straighten your hair naturally so that it’s smooth and shiny.

2. Next, divide your hair into 2 sections, upper and lower. The upper section should not be more than 6-7 inches thick and the lower portion will constitute the main ponytail.

3. Hold the upper section up above your head and lightly back comb it with a thin brush/comb.

4. Now create a small bouffant on the top of your head (like Deepika) and pin it using 1 or 2 thin black hairpins.

5. Take all your loose hair and tie it into a ponytail in the middle of your head (not too high, not too low)

Style Tip: If you’re going to sport this look for over 4-5 hours, I suggest using a mild hairspray to keep it in place.

3. How to get Deepika Padukone’s make up?

Deepika Padukone usually can be seen with one staple look when it comes to make up – black eyeliner, tan and nude make up.

What you need:

– Black Eyeliner (preferably cream based)

– Foundation (one tone darker than your skin tone)

– Black Mascara

– Nude Pink matte lipstick or gloss

1. Mix your foundation with a dot of moisturiser (this makes it easier to blend) and spread evenly across your face, neck and any other exposed part (even your arms and legs). If you feel your foundation has not properly blended, use a make up pad to dab it in.

2. Deepika Padukone loves the classic winged eyeliner. Use an angular tipped brush and start from the inside to the outside following these 4 simple steps.

3. Once you’re eyeliner looks perfect, use a thick black mascara brighten your eyes. Use the mascara only on your upper lashes.

4. Finish the look with a nudish pink lipstick. For the evening, use a gloss and matte for the day.

Style Tip: If you think you have flawless skin and can do without a foundation, you may leave that step out.

Now that you’ve got the look, here are 3 inside details on Deepika’s all time favourite style statements you can almost always spot her in:

– Nude Pumps

– Gold Accessories (bangles, charm bracelets, earrings)

– Collarbones (Deepika loves showing off her collarbones in tube tops and deep necks)
